The trace of movement in matter
Rafaela Ferreira’s painting stems from a deep sense of unease: what remains when a gesture comes to an end? Moving beyond the mere representation of movement, her works inscribe the passage of time and the persistence of the body upon the canvas, transforming each painting into a living archive of accumulated actions.
Layers of time and a second skin
Through a practice of repetition, persistence and slowness, each layer of paint preserves the one beneath it. In the raw canvas, in the cracking surface and in the visceral red that returns from one work to the next, the surface becomes a second skin where time is inscribed, revealing traces of what was there before it was covered.
PROCESS
A choreography: from restraint to exposure
The exhibition unfolds as an evolving journey that traces the intensification of the gesture throughout the artist’s working process. From the more restrained marks to those that are fully exposed, looking at these surfaces means entering an accumulated time that reveals and conceals, making the very process of painting the work itself.
